Spotlight: Valerie Scott & Victoria Veedell - April 1 - July 31, 2022

Valerle Scott

Valerie Scott is an Abstract Expressionist painter who lives and works in San Francisco. She’s inspired by the contemporary masters Jasper Johns, Francis Bacon, Lee Krasner, Richard Diebenkorn, Willem de Kooning and Elaine de Kooning just to name a few. These artists’ works and philosophies have shaped her into the painter that she is today. Her creative process is constantly evolving and reflective of her life thus far. Her abstractions convey emotional highs and lows as well as keen observations on the human experience. She often communicates nuance through color and texture, and she’s found that the small wonders of daily life propel her to continually experiment with her process while bringing further works to completion.

Victoria Veedell

Places have a memory, a history, a feel that we connect with. These memories, like faint echoes, are revealed as light moves across the landscape, transforming the color and texture of a place. It is these moments and experiences that Victoria captures in her atmospheric landscape paintings. For this series, Victoria wanted to stay close to home taking note of the beauty while on her daily walks through the city parks or around her favorite coastal spots. These paintings trace the effect light has on a location, how it leaves it’s mark on the landscape, how it illuminates the essence of nature - creating different moods, transforming a scene, drawing us in, focusing our gaze, changing the temperature physically and emotionally, and capturing movement. Combined, these elements seek to communicate the feeling and memories of a place.
