JUROR'S STATEMENT:  "This call was all about mood, for me. Shadow, mystery, color tone and subject. With so many submissions, the statement and specificity of theme was kept close at hand during the jury process. I searched for a images with a mood that evoked night time shadows, dark secrets, and creatures. Loneliness and isolation can also be part of a night time mood. These emotions are conveyed in abstract color or literally with the expression on a face or surreal subject of a mixed media piece. During this heavy time globally with the Amazon Rain Forest burning, mass shootings occurring and human rights being violated in our own country, jurying this dark show could have been depressing. But expressing ourselves and our humanity is a positive thing. I hope you will discover commonality with the darkest of images and see that we are all a part of the light and the dark."
