"The Heart is a Flexible Space"

Picture
- An immersive, site-specific installation constructed from men’s neckties
by Isaac Amala and Liz Simpson
in the Project Gallery at Arc

OPENING RECEPTION - Saturday, November 10th 6-8PM

EXHIBITION - October 31- November 18, 2012

“The Heart is a Flexible Space” is the latest piece in an ongoing body of work by collaborating artists Isaac Amala and Liz Simpson. Over the last six years, the artists have utilized acquired textiles as both the subjects of and raw materials for sculptural and architectural explorations. Neckties, specifically, have been a central element of their practice: as objects that communicate complex layers of social meaning, and as designed objects with both defined and infinitely varying formal characteristics. The artists' collaborative explorations articulate the fabric's nuances through repeated actions - folding, stacking, wrapping, sewing, organizing - and, in so doing, they probe the painting process and develop diverse material forms and tactile environments.
