DESCRIPTION:
“Life is like an ever-shifting kaleidoscope - a slight change, and all patterns alter.” - Sharon Salzberg
A kaleidoscope is a viewing instrument that creates a continually changing pattern of shapes and colors. It is a treasure trove of beautiful colors, ever shifting, ever delightful to the eye. It draws the viewer into a new world that envelopes their vision with an infinity of patterns.
For this exhibition we are seeking works that are extravagant to view, works that evoke drama or strong emotions through the use of color. Kaleidoscope can also be interpreted as meaning a wide range of options, a crowd of people dressed in colorful costumes, or a space filled with shifting, colorful lights such as a disco. It can also depict sunlight interacting with nature, the brilliance of someone’s eyes, or the iridescent body of an insect or bird. An actual kaleidoscope would also be welcome in this exhibition.
JUROR: Ashley Voss, Voss Gallery, San Francisco, CA
Ashley L. Voss is a gallerist and arts advocate based in San Francisco, CA. She is the owner/director of Voss Gallery, an art gallery dedicated to showcasing New Contemporary work by emerging and mid-career artists in both solo and thematically organized group shows. Her writing has been published in Pelican Bomb and Art Practical. Most recently, Ashley worked as the Gallery Manager for Art Attack SF and Curatorial & Communications Manager for PARSE NOLA. She has held additional positions at a number of arts organizations, including Q Artists Cooperative and The Riverfront Arts Center in Stevens Point, WI; and Anton Haardt Gallery, The Front, and the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans, LA.
