“WITH A TWIST: STORIES OF HER OWN"
In the Project Gallery at Arc
Bay Area Exhibition in the Project Gallery
Presented by Arc Studios & Gallery, Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center (APICC), and Angela Han Art LLC Curated by Angela Han In-Person Opening Reception: Saturday, May 11th, 7-9PM Artist Talk: "Stories Behind the Art," Sunday, May 26, 2024, 2-5pm Exhibition: May 11 - June 8, 2024 |
“With a Twist: Stories of Her Own" highlights seven young Asian and Pacific Islander (API) women artists living and working in the Bay Area. This exhibition features artwork inspired by folklore from each of the artists’ cultural roots, but with a twist: Artists have changed the original tales in ways that reimagine what it means to exist, live, and thrive as API women in the United States and beyond. These “evolved herstories” are illustrated using various mediums, including painting, photography, and mixed media. The culminating stories and artwork respond to race and gender-based injustices experienced by API women and bring to life the artists’ hopes for a future in which API women are eternally respected and cherished.
FEATURED ARTISTS: Nicki Aquino, Theresa Calpotura, Diana Chen, Nimisha Doongarwal, Angela Han, Diana Li, and Samara Tana.
