“Luminous” 2017 National Juried Exhibition - at Arc Gallery

We are seeking work that captures the elusive magic of the word, “luminous.” How do you depict a glowing from within, that which reflects light, or something illuminated or bathed in light? Subjects may encompass the brightness of a celestial object, eyes glowing with love, an ardent heart, a halo of light, radiant power, something ablaze, or objects that are shimmery, sparkling, glistening, lustrous, incandescent. Surprise us with your interpretation.
Sculpture, painting, drawing, photo, printmaking, ceramics, assemblage, collage, mixed media, fiber art, glass art, artist book, illuminated artwork using an internal electrical source, illuminated artwork using an electrical cord
For this exhibition, Arc can accept work that is illuminated through an internal electrical source such as a battery or an external electrical cord plugged into an outlet.

JUROR: Danielle Fox, Slate Contemporary Gallery, Oakland
Danielle Fox has over twenty years of experience as an art historian (PhD, Northwestern University), writer, editor, independent curator, Deputy Director of Business Development at Sothebys in London, and communications and project manager for Artakt Art consulting in London. Danielle founded SLATE contemporary gallery in Oakland in 2009, and SLATE Art Consulting with Shelley Barry in 2013. These positions have allowed her to develop relationships with artists all over the Bay Area, to curate over sixty-five temporary exhibitions in both gallery and office environments, to advise both commercial and private clients regarding permanent acquisitions, and sales at auction. http://slateart.net
A Juror’s Award ribbon, certificate, $250 and a copy of the catalog will be presented to each of the three works that express the most imaginative interpretation of the theme.
NONREFUNDABLE ENTRY FEE
Payment of $35 per entry. An entry consists of one to three submissions of images. A maximum of two entries per person is allowed. Credit card payment through Paypal only. You do not need a Paypal account to pay through Paypal.

There are two opportunities to get into this show. The juror will select works that will be exhibited in the Arc Gallery at 1246 Folsom Street and works that will be included only on the Arc On-line Gallery.
All artwork selected will be included in the exhibition catalog. Catalogs will be available for order at the time of notification.

ARTWORK MAXIMUM SIZE
2-Dimensional Work: Height 9 feet, Width 4 feet - including frame
3-Dimensional Work: Must fit pedestal sized 16 inches x 16 inches or take up no more than 4 feet of gallery floor space.

Submit JPG images sized approximately 4 inches wide x 6 inches high at 300 dpi resolution. In order to upload successfully, your image must be at least 1200 pixels wide. The maximum uploadable file size is 8 megabytes. High-resolution images are requested for catalog production and printed publicity of accepted works. Works displayed on-line will be reduced to web-standard low resolution by Arc. All images must be submitted in RGB color mode. You will NOT be able to upload images in CMYK. Your JPG file name must be Artist's Last Name, under-score, and Title. Example: Smith_ScratchMarks2.JPG. You may upload up to three additional views per piece if you have a difficult-to-photograph work such as sculpture or artist's book.
